Did you know we've been a family business for 62 years this year ?

NZ Bulbs is part of Aorangi Bulb Nurseries, started by Len and Margaret Hoek in 1957. Len emigrated from Holland in 1954 and it didn't take long for him to put down roots and call New Zealand home. Margaret was a kiwi girl born and bred in Palmerston North.

Margaret passed away in 2017 but Len still works every day in the nursery, looking after all our cut flower packing and shipping.

That's Len on the left in a field of tulips at the nursery about 50 years ago with my sister and myself. I'm showing off my curls a bit more while modelling my blue outfit in the daffodils centre left... and my two sons, centre right and right, seemed just as keen to be among the flowers when they were young.

We now grow more than 25 acres of bulbs through the year for both bulb and cut flower production, as well as having three quarters of an acre of greenhouse space.
