Asian shallots, also known as red shallots, are smaller than French shallots and have a bright red-purple colour. They are sweeter and more piquant than French shallots, with a pronounced 'garlic' flavour. Widely used in Asian cooking for adding flavour to stir fry, curries or even fried and eaten on their own. They're also delicious when roasted whole. Grown right here at our nursery.
Plant them in rows with the top quarter above the ground, spaced 12 cm apart. You can plant them any time through to July but earlier planting tends to give more bunching and a heavier crop.
Fertilise with general purpose fertiliser in early September and again in early November to boost them for their final growth push.
Please note that garlic and shallots are shipped from late March to June while stocks last and are shipped separately from flower bulbs. Freight is charged separately from other bulb orders
