Colchicum Speciosum Album

Also known as autumn crocuses, Colchicums belong to the Lily family. Despite the 'autumn crocus' common name, Speciosum album's flowers are much larger than spring flowering crocuses and can reach 4cm across.

The large crisp white flowers are produced in clusters, with each bulb producing several flowers, often in several groups. They prefer dappled shade and are ideal for shady areas where other bulbs may not thrive. Plant the bulbs from mid February to mid March, 8-10cm deep and 15cm apart.

Wear gloves when handling the bulbs as they contain the alkaloid colchicine, which is toxic.
