Also known as autumn crocuses, Colchicums belong to the Lily family. Commonly known as 'autumn crocuses', they flower in early autumn and have much bigger flowers than spring flowering crocuses.
Colchicum "Water Lily" is a hybrid between C. autumnale ''Alboplenum'' and C. speciosum ''Album'' and has beautiful pastel lavender-pink double flowers. It prefers dappled shade and is ideal for shady areas where other bulbs may not thrive. Plant the bulbs from mid February to late March, 8-10cm deep and 15cm apart.
Wear gloves when handling the bulbs as they contain the alkaloid colchicine, which is toxic.
